About Us
The Random Volleyball Club was created from the resulting synergy of a core group of volleyball players with a shared passion for the game. Initially, the team name “Random” was coined, partially as a joke, as a result of Jason Philips (President RVC) fielding teams in various tournaments comprised of him, and whomever he could get to play. Jay’s tenacity for promoting and playing competitive tournaments brought together a group of players with the shared goals of:
- Improving their game
- Having fun
- Competing
- Growing the sport
These players, no longer the “random” assembly of players, became Team Random – and from that, the Random Volleyball Club was born.
RVC doesn’t have a minimum skill set requirement of interested players, but a desire to improve, a willingness to accept criticism, and an interest in playing fun – albeit competitive volleyball are must have attributes.
Our base of operations is in the Greater New Haven (CT) area – with our League play based at the CT Sport’s Center in Woodbridge CT, and our open play nights occurring in Hamden, Cheshire, and Woodbridge.
RVC is, at its core, a 6 person-indoor play based club. However, nearly everyone who plays on the 6 person teams also plays in grass and sand play. We participate in sand and grass doubles tournaments throughout the summer in southern CT and Long Island.
RVC is governed by a group of senior staffers, made up of the following:
- President - Jason Philips
- Vice-President - Tim Casey
- Secretary - Andy Wong
- Financial Officer - Efrem Golden
- PR and Marketing - Lynn Jones
